Graphics and Video Viewing Problems

The videos on the March Performance are compressed and served using Macromedia Flash 8. This format provides fast progressive downloads of video files that allow fast viewing of videos on our pages. Most browsers already support this Flash content, this includes the current version of Internet Explorer. If you can not see videos you may need to download the current version of the Flash Player (version 8) this download is small and free and can be found here http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/

General
If you have content filtering software, popup blocking software, or a personal firewall, you may need to disable them. These applications sometimes will interfere with viewing video content.

American Online Users
Many problem we see seem to come from users of AOL. AOLs spam and virus blocking software can at time block or interfere with multimedia content. But there are some step you can take to prevent this problem.

1. Make sure Animated Media is allowed. Go to and click "Pop-up Control Preferences" Click "Animated Media" and check "Allow All Animated Media" Click "Save"

2. We have found AOL TopSpeed AOL's TopSpeed technology can sometimes interfere with video content. This problem is easily solved by de-activating TopSpeed whilst you are at marchperf.com: Click on the TopSpeedTM icon in the bottom left-hand corner of your AOL browser screen. In the browser window that appears click on the 'browser settings' button in the top right-hand corner. Untick the 'optimise web browsing using TopSpeed technology box, and click save. Close the TopSpeed window.

3. if all else fails it is possible tto bypass the AOL browser. After you connect to the Internet minimize AOL, or your Internet connection window, and open Internet Explorer and access our sites using IE.

AOL, Photos and Graphics Look Bad
The default setting in AOL's browser uses a proprietary compression software which converts web graphics and images into files of a smaller size. This allows AOL users to download web pages more quickly. However, the compression process can severely degrade the appearance of high quality images and graphics files. A large number of website developers and AOL users have noted this problem, including images not being displayed, graphics with dark bands across them, murky colors, etc.

To turn off Graphics compression in AOL follow the instructions below.
At the top/middle of your AOL screen click on 'Settings' Click on PREFERENCES A window should now appear containing a bunch of blue text links Click on Internet Properties (WWW): Some options should now appear, and you should find some tabs Click on the 'General' tab, and toward the center, you should see 'Temporary Internet Files' Click on the DELETE FILES button (this will clear out all of the old images out of the 'cache' file which is stored on your hard drive) One of the tabs should be labeled WEB GRAPHICS Click on that tab Select the 'Never compress graphics' option. For older versions of AOL, the "Compressed Graphics" setting can be found under "My AOL".

If none of these help please let us know, we are constantly trying to improve our site for our customers.
